Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging at Firefish
Belonging has always been at the core of the Firefish culture. But when we became a Work from Anywhere employer, we knew that creating a strong sense of belonging for our Fish was going to be a top priority.
"To belong, you must feel included and valued. Firefish strives to nurture a culture where inclusiveness is natural and not a prescribed initiative.
We appreciate that different ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds create a stronger, more cohesive work environment.
Our commitment to inclusion across race, gender, age, religion, identity, and experience drives us forward every day."
– Firefish Board of Directors
What 'belonging' means to our Fish
Last year, we began running internal Focus Groups where team members across different functions get together to discuss how to drive forward a particular area of the business.
The #lovethefish group aims to consistently make Firefish an even better place to work. As part of a Focus Group project, some of our Fish spent time putting together a video to share their own thoughts on what belonging at Firefish feels like to them.
This was a project produced and driven entirely by those in the video – they wanted to share their experience of inclusivity at Firefish and how this has created a sense of belonging for them.
We’re sure you’ll agree the results are really something! Watch the video to find out what they said…
Celebrating diversity through Pride
Showing support as friends and allies of the LGBTQ+ community is a priority to us. So to celebrate Pride Month this month, we’ve upgraded our logo and website to the trans-inclusive Pride flag and made changes to our Meet the Team page so that every Fish can display their preferred pronoun.
We did this to recognise the fact that we can’t assume the preferred pronouns of any of our Fish and promotes a more inclusive workplace for all employees.
This is just the beginning of our long term commitment to learning more about how we can improve the everyday working experience for our employees.
Celebrating diversity through cultural events
What better way to celebrate diversity than with some online culture event hosting from our Fish across the water?
To celebrate diversity within our shoal, our #lovthefish focus group has been organising ‘What’s your culture?’ online events, where Fish canget together to learn more about a new culture, history, cuisine and even pickup a few words in a new language.
There’s always a quiz involved and the chanceto score some team points for your function!
We love these cultural events – they’re an awesome opportunity to celebrate diversity in the business and reaffirm our belief that no matter where our Fish are in the world, they’ll always belong at Firefish!
